The statement and its message are not to start a debate about the existence of a Christian God, or a denial of Jesus as a historical figure, or to criticize Christian people. It is not even a critique of Christianity itself. The concern lies with the rise of mega-churches, the well-capitalized institutions that operate more like corporations than “places of worship.” These organizations, protected under non-profit status, pay no taxes yet accumulate vast wealth, year after year. Masked in the language of “faith” they operate as engines for profit, not places for worship.
If modern Christianity truly followed the teachings of Jesus, which centered on compassion, humility, and service, there would be no room for bigotry, exclusion, or greed. But history has revealed that injustice, intolerance, and violence have deep roots within organized religion. The Bible (written by humans thousands of years ago and later revised through the patriarchal, Anglo-centric lens) is too often used to justify harm, hatred, and division rather than healing and unity.
This is not the Christianity Jesus envisioned. His message has been distorted, whitewashed, weaponized, and ultimately betrayed.
It is time for all of us—especially in North America—to examine Christianity with honesty, depth, and critical reflection.
